Everyone in our community can help. 27% of the phosphorus that drains into our lake is from “other watershed runoff”. We have a 29 mile watershed that sinks in like a bowl: everything flows down into the lake. That is all of us, folks. Everything that washes down our drains, our driveways, our yards… makes its way into the lake. 1,800 households worth of phosphorus and other chemicals. So tonight, when we are talking to the county about what THEY are doing, I expect us to be prepared to talk about what WE are doing at home. Stop by the Spokane Conservation Department table and sign-up to get “Lake Care OK’d”—that’s a checkoff list saying you are doing everything you can to help keep the lake clean.
